Mark Hamill talks about the events leading up to Luke’s exile

We are all hyped for the Last Jedi coming out this December, right? It will hopefully answer the bag full of questions that we got from The Force Awakens. Good news is that Mark Hamill answered one of these conundrums in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. He told us more about why Luke went into exile.

Here’s what he said:

“[Luke] made a huge mistake in thinking that his nephew was the chosen one, so he invested everything he had in Kylo, much like Obi-Wan did with my character, and he is betrayed, with tragic consequences. Luke feels responsible for that. That’s the primary obstacle he has to rejoining the world and his place in the Jedi hierarchy, you know? It’s that guilt, that feeling that it’s his fault, that he didn’t detect the darkness in him until it was too late.”

We love this. It makes Luke seem like a failed master. That he is living in Obi-Wan’s shadow almost.

What do you think?
