A new trailer has been released for X-Men Apocalypse and we thought we would do a quick review.

Watch the new trailer and then we’ll dive in with our analysis.
Let’s get to it!

The trailer starts off with the iconic sign for Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. We think it is a prerequisite for any X-Men Movie to show this sign.

Professor X is teaching a class and, in his voice over, says, “Things are better. The world is better.” We think he is talking to Mystique who has shown up at her old home and she wants to warn him about ‘someone’ coming.
“Just because there’s not a war doesn’t mean there’s peace. He’s coming.”
This is pretty vague because it could be Apocalypse, Stryker, or just a general warning about Magneto.

Cool shot of Oscar Isaac before he turns into Apocalypse. We hear Moira MacTaggert telling Professor X things we’ve heard her say before. “Some call him Apocalypse.”
She and Mystique seem to be hellbent on getting Professor X to do something about this dangerous new foe.

Moira continues, “He’s been amassing mutants to take their powers.”
We’ve seen this sand destruction effect in previous trailers, but on a massive scale, and in a modern setting. This shot is interesting because it shows us how Apocalypse’s powers are going to manifest in this movie, and that he can also use it on individual people, not just cities.

Angel at some sort of Mutant Fight Club.
It’s hard to make out here, but based on Bryan Singer’s Instagram, the body he’s screaming over is Blob’s. Yes, Blob!

“Erik, don’t join them.”
First of all, this scene implies that Magneto’s not an unwilling participant in whatever Apocalypse is doing. Second of all, this probably takes place after Magneto (with Apocalypse) levitates Professor X’s wheelchair in the mansion and, presumably, hightails it out of the mansion with him. Which does explain why Mystique has to step up, but doesn’t explain why he’s begging Magneto not to join the people it appears he’s already joined.
You can tell by the rocky ground that for some reason Apocalypse has kidnapped Charles and he is now with the four horsemen. Perhaps they need Charles powers for the extinction plan?

“Whatever it is you think you saw in me, I buried it with my family.”
And then we have this flashback of Magneto cradling a… child? And there’s a head with a ponytail on the ground? We’re going to assume after the events in Washington, Erik walked away from his powers and started a family. We doubt that Apocalypse had anything to do with their apparent deaths because there is no way Erik would join him.
So the big question is, how did they die?

“If I’m going to teach your kids something, I’m going to teach them to fight,” she voice-overs.
Apparently they are getting the most out of Jennifer Lawrence’s contract and last X-Men film, but this kind of bothers us.
Mystique is a villain. Why they are portraying her as some kind of leader and savior of the mutants is just wrong in our opinion.
Okay, back to the shot.
We’ve seen versions of this fight between Angel and Nightcrawler before, but now we have a better understanding of the context.

“Follow me,” says Mystique, as she and Nightcrawler teleport out of what looks like a riot in the Mutant Fight Club.
It’s kind of hard to tell through the accent, but Nightcrawler says, “You’re her!” to Mystique. Hints of their comics relationship, maybe? Highly doubtful considering this is Jennifer Lawrence’s last X-Men movie, but we like how he instantly recognizes her. After all, how many other blue skinned mutants that have outed themselves are lurking about?

Yeah, so Magneto’s my dad…
This is not a huge revelation. We pretty much figured it out in X-Men: Days of Future Past when Quicksilver was introduced, but it’s a funny scene on how they address it here. We also love Peter Maximoff’s portrayal of this character.

Cool shot of Cyclops battling Storm. This looks to be a pretty epic battle.

OK, time to speculate. What exactly is En Sabah Nur’s big plan? The logical thinking would be that it’s to kill all humans and build a new mutant-only civilization, which would certainly fit with that giant Egyptian structure he’s building, although that doesn’t account for the way he’s going about it. Also, what does Charles have to do with it if it pertains to some sort of physical destruction?
Check out this shot below of Storm

What structure is behind Storm? Could this be a place to house Mutants and keep them safe while they burn the world down and taking the humans with it?

Angel with his metal wings. Could this be right after he was turned into one of the Four Horsemen?

Cerebro is on fire!
The last trailer had that awesome shot of Havoc going crazy inside Cerebro and letting his chest lasers go at full blast, and it doesn’t seem like he is in control.
Major causality alert? This would also seem to suggest that it’s Havoc’s freak-out that leads to the X-Mansion destruction sequence (seen in part in this trailer, with Quicksilver zooming around the building trying to save mutant children).
We also don’t see Havoc in the battle scenes so we are almost positive he may be dead.
R.I.P.

Magneto presiding over destruction.
“I’ll take everything from them,” says Magneto.
Them being the humans we are assuming.

Another battle which looks pretty cool is the one between Beast and Pyslocke.

Why, oh why is Stryker in this movie? From what we gather, after the mansion is burned, Stryker takes the mutant kids to his base.
You know the one.
Alkali Lake.

More destruction.

And even more destruction…
C.G.I. looks better in this trailer.

Well, what do we have here?
It looks like a base with a lot of dead soldiers.
As Mystique and her crew come to get the students captured by Stryker, we see that they’re less trapped than one might have guessed.
“Well, you’ve been busy,” Mystique says.
Cyclops: “We had a little help.”

Dum, dum, dum!
It’s Wolverine. We believe the whole Stryker subplot is jammed in here for the sole purpose of putting Wolverine in this movie and we are not complaining! We don’t expect that Wolverine has a big role in the movie, but it’s awesome to see him here.

One thing we would like to note. There wasn’t that much of Jean Grey in this trailer, just a few shots, and that makes us wonder how big her role is in the movie. For some reason we think they are deliberately not showing us because she is so important.
Could her powers be growing?
There are rumors that Jean’s powers grow at an incredible rate, possibly hinting at her transformation to the “Phoenix”. Several rumors speculate that the next X-Men film after “Apocalypse” will be based on popular X-Men story line “The Dark Phoenix” saga to which Jean succumbs to her powers and becomes “Dark Phoenix”, which we think would be awesome.
What do you guys think? Are you excited to see X-Men Apocalypse?
