We saw X-Men Apocalypse this weekend and wanted to share with you our in-depth review of the newest installment that has hit the theaters.
First Reactions:
Rek: It was a good movie, a good X-Men movie. I had a few issues with it, but overall I thought it was a great movie.
Seppin: I really enjoyed it. I think there were some slight problems CGI wise, but it’s never going to be perfect and I’m okay with it. It actually felt like an X-Men movie and not Wolverine and his friends.
Verdict: It was a solid B+ in our opinion and we highly recommend it.
Okay. let’s talk spoilers!
Go away now if you haven’t seen it.
No seriously.
Things we liked:
- The Team. It felt like the story focused on every character and gave each character enough development and screen time.
- The story was also good. It was a classic X-Men story line. It wasn’t exactly Age of Apocalypse, but it was similar to the team meeting Apocalypse for the first time.
- Michael Fassbender was awesome, once again, as Magneto. He also had the best line in the movie. When seeing Apocalypse for the first time as he just appeared out of nowhere. “Who the f- are you?” Magneto asks scathingly.
- Cyclops! They did a good job with Cyclops…finally.
- Quicksilver stole the movie though in our opinion. His scenes were awesome and we can’t wait to see more of him.
- We think Oscar Isaac did a good job as Apocalypse. He really did make this God like character realistic. Thumbs up, Poe Dameron. Thumbs up.
- Nightcrawler was a good addition. He was a bit amusing.
- Oh my …They showed the Phoenix Force and it was AWESOME.
- I’m happy they killed Havoc. We’re not huge fans.
- We finally saw the blood from Wolverine killing people. The scene was very reminiscent of the comic.
Things we didn’t like:
-The CGI. It could have used more work and some of the green screen backgrounds just plain sucked.
-I can understand them not using Jubilee, BUT they really did waste Psylocke.
-Can we discuss the Mystique problem? She’s a teacher at the end? Did anyone else think that Jennifer Lawrence didn’t want to be in this movie or are we Jlawed out?
- Did Wolverine really need to be in this movie? In fact, did the whole scene at base really need to happen? It may set up the X-Force well, but was it necessary?
- Angel? Really? They totally wasted him.
End Credit Scene
The end credit scene was interesting because we clearly saw the suitcase bearing the Essex Group Logo and we can assume that we will be seeing Mr.Sinister at some point, but which movie will he appear. Is this clue for the next X-Men, Deadpool 2, or X-Force?
He literally can be the villain for any of those movies.
What were your thoughts on X-Men Apocalypse?
