Last week, news broke that not only was a Justice League Dark Universe movie coming, but there was already a director attached to the project.
You can check out the details and Seppin’s reaction here.
Now the fun starts…casting these characters.
We’re going to start with Seppin’s favorite character, John Constantine.
We’ll give you a bit of backstory in case you haven’t read this blog and are unaware of this character.
John Constantine is an occult detective and magician from Liverpool,England. His violent and anti-social attitude makes him a formidable anti-hero, and he’s known for doing whatever it takes to get the job done.
That’s the quick version. but there are so many layers to this character. He was abused as a child because his father was a jerk who blamed him for his mother’s unfortunate death when she gave died giving birth to him.
He is a chain smoking magic using, demon tricking con artist. He went to Hell and lived to tell about it. He threatened God and God listened!
This is one of his most famous lines:
“I’m the one who steps from the shadows, all trenchcoat and cigarette and arrogance, ready to deal with the madness. Oh, I’ve got it all sewn up. I can save you. If it takes the last drop of your blood, I’ll drive the demons away. I’ll kick them in the bollocks and spit on them when they’re down, and then I’ll be gone back into the darkness, leaving only a nod, a wink and a wisecrack. I walk my path alone… who would want to walk with me?”
In other words…he’s pretty damn awesome.
So, who should portray him on the big screen?
We love Matt Ryan. He did a great job on t.v., but NBC wasn’t the place for him and the show got cancelled. We have heard rumors of him joining Legends of Tomorrow and maybe getting a new show on the CW, which Seppin has been spear heading a one man petition (#saveconstantine). He is lending his voice to the character in the new Justice League Dark animated movie and we are very excited about that.
Now, what are his chances for this big screen role?
Probably slim to none unfortunately. We’re pretty sure they are probably going to go with an actor that is well established in Hollywood and we’re actually okay with that as long as Matt Ryan keeps voicing him in animation and they use him on the CW.
The rumors have been ripe for a few months now that Colin Farrell was the front runner for the role and in the last week, those rumors are getting stronger.
He is our top pick for the role.
*Side note-Whoever did this concept art is brilliant*
Our other dark horse favorite is Daniel Craig. If he acted this role like he did with James Bond from Skyfall, we would be pretty stoked.
Do you have any favorites for this role?
