James Gunn, director of Guardians of the Galaxy and the upcoming sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, revealed that he has been “thinking about” a solo film for Nebula…yes, MamaSeppinRek’s least favorite character from Guards.
Gunn was responding to a fan question and he had this to say:
Karen Gillan is set to reprise the blue-skinned, cyborg assassin Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and although her master Ronan was defeated, Nebula made it out alive.
“I think what I’m really excited about it delving into the sisterly relationship between Gamora and Nebula. I think that we’re going to see a little bit more of that, and it’s going to be a bit more fleshed out.” ~ James Gunn
Nebula’s adopted sister Gamora clearly did not get along with her sister in the first movie. They were both trained (and tortured) by their villainous dad Thanos to be killer assassins and Gamora aligned herself with the Guardians instead of serving her father’s evil world-destroying plans.
Gunn also commented further on their sisterly relationship further in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 in a recent video:
“The first movie was really about becoming a family. This movie is about being a family. And what’s harder, becoming a family or being a family? I think it’s being a family. That’s where you really have to deal with each other. And that’s what this movie is about. And their sisters. They are family, whether they like it or not. And they also want to kill each other, so it adds a new twist to being a sister.”
Nebula is one of the strongest characters in the galaxy, but we found the portrayal of her role a little over dramatic and not well acted, although her action sequences were great. We hope to see a better version in Guards Vol. 2.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters May 5, 2017.
