Hey everyone,
I know that I am a bit late to the party to talk about these set photos, but I really wanna discuss them!
There have been quite a few images coming out from the recent shoot in Ohio. This is surprising considering how long James Gunn has been able to keep the filming under wraps since they started shooting at the end of February. This is the first real time we are getting a look at the actors out in public dressed up.
I apologize for anyone coming to this post to see the actual leaked set photos, but a lot of these photos are either watermarked or getting people taken down. Which means I can not risk putting the images in this post. However, I will try to explain the photos and if you want to see them, then I am sure you can find the images very easily.
First up, the full Superman suit on David Corenswet. Also notice that it is not battle damaged like we had seen in the reveal photo Gunn released. We get a really good look at the brighter colors of the suit and cape along with the belt. Plus, we did it…
We got the shorts!
I am so happy to see them incorporated in the suit as they complete the look and honestly make the whole suit feel very accurate to the source material. Some people may still be upset about the lines, but they appear a lot more hidden in the sunlight and are accurate to the New 52 design.
I also love to see the symbol on the back of the cape. It’s a small thing but feels recognizable and adds a break in all the red. Another design choice I like here is how the belt hooks through the shorts. It just makes it all come together really well.
Okay, that’s enough for Supes. Let’s talk about Edi Gathegi’s Mr. Terriffic. He looks… terrific!
Seriously, I can’t see any complaints with his fit. He looks ripped from the comics. For those saying he looks too CW, please take a look at Mr. Terriffic’s comic appearance!
His leather jacket is iconic and I will not have it be besmirched!
Next, we got to see the entire daily planet cast. Seriously, they all seemed to exit this round “spaceship” kind of device. It kind of looks like Mr. Terriffic’s T Ship. Which would explain why he was on set at the same time. I love all of their designs and I am so excited to see these characters interact. I feel like James has built a really strong bulletin for the Daily Planet. MAX original series when?
And after that we got our first look at Clark Kent.
Okay, let’s get the elephant out of the room. The Gen Z haircut. I know that this is another thing that people aren’t sure about, but I feel like it works in a functional way. I mean putting that image side by side with Superman would make it difficult to tell that these are the same person. I also saw somewhere that there was actual footage of Clark clumsily running to an alleyway to presumably change. I love it, if you get the chance to see it, watch it!
*Possible Spoilers Moving Forward*
Lastly, I wanted to discuss the recent images of Superman getting arrested with soldiers around him. It has MoS vibes, which is cool to see and makes me wonder what Clark “did” to get in this kind of trouble. I think the important part to discuss is the characters surrounding Superman. We see the Engineer, which we had a feeling would have an antagonist role in this film from the casting and from what we have seen thus far. Her design for the film is really eye catching and I am excited to meet her character.
However, there are two other characters that really surprise me. First is Rick Flag Sr. who is seen leading the soldiers and arresting Superman. It sucks to not have Frank Grillo’s appearance be a surprise in this film, but it is cool to see how he will connect Superman with Creature Commandos and Peacemaker season 2, of which Rick Flag Sr. will have a large presence in. I’m curious to see how his character will act in this story. Is he working for Waller? Perhaps another Supe that she wants under her thumb? Or perhaps she called him in because she sees Superman as a threat?
Man, I would love to see that interaction. Just imagine Amanda Waller meeting Superman and realizing that she cant buy him or manipulate him.
Lastly, lets talk about Black Noir…
Oh, I mean mystery villain in the black suit who totally knocks out Superman. Who could this be?
Well, for anyone following Superman’s rumor mill, we heard a while back that Ultraman was rumored to be in the film and would perhaps be a reinvention of the character. He is said to be a clone of the Man of Steel, similar to Bizzarro, made by Lex Luthor to ruin Superman’s image and as a weapon against the Kryptonian.
Now, why do we think this rumor could still be true?
Well besides him clearly knocking our Superman to the floor. He is kind of conveniently wearing a large U on his chest. Although he doesn’t share much in design with his comic counterpart. This could be a good thing because it could get confusing seeing two Superman looking practically identical crashing into each other. I could see Gunn choosing to change the look to make it easier to track the characters. Plus the bright Corenswet Superman versus a black and grey clone is really cool thematically.
Okay. I think that marks the end of the set photos. Sure there are a ton showing newspapers of Superman saving people and little shops and references in Metropolis, but I feel like I got to talk about a lot of the important ones in this post.
As more news comes out, be sure to check out this blog as I will be sure to update you guys with all new things Superman!
Thanks for reading!
