The Defenders & Iron Fist News

The Defenders are coming and sooner than we thought!

We have to give props to Marvel and their partnership with Netflix. They set the bar high when they brought us the first season of Daredevil and then we were treated to a mature physiological thriller, Jessica Jones. Now that the second season of Daredevil is out and Luke Cage, as well as, Iron Fist is in production, they have started to talk about The Defenders.

Actor Charlie Cox recently revealed that filming for The Defenders is scheduled for the end of the year, signaling that the show is further into development than many may have thought. Marvel Studios took things one step further today confirming that Daredevil showrunners, Douglas Petrie (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Marco Ramirez (Orange is the New Black), will be guiding the upcoming event mini-series for Netflix.

Here was, in part, their statement:

“Doug and Marco captivated our members around the world with their continuation of the story of Matt Murdock in ‘Marvel’s Daredevil,’ and we can’t wait to see how they and Drew will introduce the full Defenders team to our global audience,” said Cindy Holland, Netflix Vice President of Original Content.

“We’re incredibly excited to be able to bring our four street level heroes together in an epic tale woven by Doug and Marco whose work on ‘Marvel’s Daredevil’ speaks for itself,” said Executive Producer/Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. “They write and produce not only great action and adventure, but also the heart and touch of humor that’s makes us Marvel. With the inclusion of Drew Goddard, we’ve got a team that’s as formidable as the Defenders themselves.”

“This is the big one. Four amazing casts, four amazing series, now all in one amazing story,” said showrunners and Executive Producers Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez. “We are thrilled at the opportunity to deliver the show that both we and the fans have been waiting for.”

Casting News

It was reported yesterday that a Jessica Jones supporting cast member is confirmed to be in the series and it’s none other than Eka Darville, who played Malcolm. We’re not sure how he fits into the series, but dare we hope that we may see Foggy or Trish as well?

Luke Cage

Luke Cage will premiere on Netflix September 30, 2016 and you can bet Seppin will be binge watching the second it is available.

Mike Colter had this to say about his upcoming show:

“I’ll just say this – it’ll be action packed, from the beginning to the very end.”

“He is reeling from the experience that happens in Jessica Jones season 1, and he’s trying to get himself back on track. His bar was blown up, and now, he has to start over again,”

“He’s just got to figure out where he is now, and what he’s doing with his life because he wants to define himself as a man, define himself in society and try to deal with his own demons. Just like Jessica had to deal with her demons, he has to deal with his demons, and that’s where he starts. I can’t tell you much more, but it will be interesting! It will be interesting and very unique.”

Iron Fist

Marvel’s Iron Fist, the newest Marvel Cinematic Universe series coming soon only to Netflix, follows Danny Rand (Finn Jones), who returns to New York City after being missing for years. He fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.

Danny Rand aka The Immortal Iron Fist, who has spent the past ten years training in the mystical city of K’un-Lun. He’s joined by Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing, David Wenham as Harold Meachum, Jessica Stroup as Joy Meachum, and Tom Pelphrey Ward Meachum. The series showrunner is Dexter‘s Scott Buck.

We have also just got our first look with a few set photos that has made its way online.

Um…okay. We’re going to keep an open mind. Our guess is that he has come back from his travels and he is secretly trying to keep his identity as a King Fu Master well hidden.

Please, please, let this be the case.

Either way he looks like he can play a mean game of hackey sack.
