Welcome back to our new series in which we review the comics that we read every week. This week Seppin is going to be reviewing Venom #5 by Donny Cates and art by Ryan Stegman.
~~Review~~
Venom is a great title. It has done a lot of retconning to the character’s backstory, but it has helped him a lot. Donny Cates has brought back that vigilante version of Venom that we loved and added some great story to him.
He has made Eddie Brock a likable character that we can relate to and I really appreciate that. Before I wasn’t too much of a fan of Eddie Brock, I always thought that he was a bit of a jerk, but this story has changed my view on the character. He has issues, but so does everyone! Donny Cates has given more story to the symbiote homeworld and even given the symbiotes a god.
This has led to a lot of crazy changes to the Venom symbiote that Eddie wears and it has even affected Eddie. Although both are loners, Eddie’s symbiote finally has a planet to go back to and a god to worship. However, it becomes very clear that this is not a benevolent god. Grendel is a destroyer and a cruel being. This has made a really interesting conflict between Venom and, basically, his god. This is going to be an epic story and it’s going to be one of his best.
Overall, you must give it a try!
